Local Bible Bee Winners Announced!

   Our local qualifying contest was the only Bible Bee contest within a 60 mile radius.  Eighty-five contestants from ages 7-18 registered for the contest and 22 competed on Sept 12, 2009 here at the Chehalis Seventh-day Adventist Church.  The written test had 220 Bible knowledge multiple-choice questions that had to be completed in one hour.  Then each contestant had two 12-minute oral exam sessions.  In each oral session, the contestants had to answer 4 Bible knowledge questions and to recite 4 Bible passages from memory.  They had 4 months to memorize 300 predetermined Bible passages and 8 of those were asked on the oral exams.  

   The winner of the Senior age group was Chelsea Derkcacht.  She received a prize of $1000.  Second place was taken by Seth Schneider, and third place was Cameron Beierle, Jr. 

     The winner of the Junior age group and the $750 prize was Rachel Alexanian.  Second place was Stephen Alexanian, and third place was Christin Beierle. 

     The youngest group was Primary and first place went to Jason Chung.  He received a $500 prize.  In second place was Daniel Hoel, and third place was Joelle Chung.  They and the other participants received some wonderful consolation prizes donated by local businesses.  We were so proud of the commitment of these young people in learning God's Word! 

    The national contest in Washington DC will be on November 5 and 6, 2009.  Unfortunately none of our contestants qualified for the national contest.  Maybe next year!   For more information about the Bible Bee, go to www.biblebee.org and find out how you can join next year's contest.
